WHO IS VERA?

Vera is a Prague-based painter, printmaker, and illustrator specializing in imaginative abstract paintings of natural and almost surreal elements combined with secession patterns and body shapes. She loves drawing and painting, is proud of her heritage, and dreams of sharing it with the world.

ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Veronika, so or Vera as my beloved partner calls me. My journey to creating my own art was winding, yet always filled with purpose. After graduating from a fine art school, I pursued further qualifications and a career in the field of human rights and labor law. However, I have always been drawn back to the artistic genes that pulses through my family.

Born into a lineage where creativity thrived against the backdrop of history, I carry forward the artistic spirit of my Sudetenland roots. My great-grandfather, a WWI soldier and a master tailor, crafted stories through fabric and drawings; my grandfather, an electrician and nearly a priest, captured light and shadow in a self-made darkroom. My mum, an urban planner and a dedicated home-carer, paints between the lines of life. Despite the wars and communism, their passion and talent persevered.

My work is my heritage and my legacy. It is a dialogue between past and modern expression, between the hand that creates and the soul that remembers.

ABOUT MY ART

Human skill, craftsmanship, and the power of creativity is where I see value. Each piece, whether a painting or a print, is an original work that embodies it.

At the core of my work is the idea of connection. As William Plomer said, "Creativity is the power to connect the seemingly unconnected."

Connection manifests between the material and the artist, between the viewer's imagination and their inner thoughts, as well as between different viewers, sparking unexpected conversations. I invite each viewer to interpret the piece in their own way, completing the image with their personal vision.

Connection is also in the combination of materials and techniques of linocut prints, acrylic and reflective gold paint, and 3D modeling paste. I play with texture and form to create a tactile, layered experience, hoping to ignite the connection.

I am Vera Novak Schwarzer. "Schwarzer" is my tribute to the legacy of art my mother passed down, while "Novak" honors my father's unwavering support of my dreams, no matter how unconventional.
